In 2012, Google and LG wowed the world with the LG Nexus 4. Despite having some of the best hardware at the time, the Nexus 4 had an incredibly low price point that matched low end devices like the Galaxy S4 Mini which launched almost a year later. The Nexus 4 had an interesting glass back design that was unique enough to stand out from the crowd and it’s 8 megapixel camera was on par with other 2012 smartphone cameras. As for the innards of the LG Nexus 4, a Snapdragon S4 Pro was found powering everything. The S4 Pro has a 1.5GHz quad core Krait processor, the Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB RAM. The Nexus 4 also had a 2,100mAh battery capacity and an internal storage of either 8GB or 16GB. Unfortunately no microSD card slot is available on the Nexus 4.  The display on the Nexus 4 was also fairly decent at the time – the size was 4.7 inches, which was very close to all other flagship devices in 2012 and it had a resolution of 768 x 1280.

When it came to software, the LG Nexus 4 was a delight for some and a deal breaker for others. Whilst the Nexus 4 did not have any extra cool features like Samsung’s TouchWiz or LG’s smartphone UX, the Nexus 4 came with stock Android. This means that the experience on the Nexus 4 is exactly how Google intended it to be, without any changes from outside sources. A stock Android experience is always a lot smoother than other Android overlays because the extra graphics, applications and UI processes are non-existent. If a Nexus 4 owner did ever want something a little more from their user interface, there were always plenty of great launcher apps available in the Google Play Store as well as a number of custom ROMs that rooted users could install onto their device. A custom ROM can change everything from the appearance of the user interface to the performance of the operating system and overall utility of the apps available.
