Every year Google chooses a manufacturer to help them make a smartphone for their Nexus range. It was clear that Google were happy with LG’s job with the Nexus 4 so the Nexus 5 was also designed, manufactured and released by LG in 2013. The official release date for the Nexus 5 resided in November so it had to go up against that year’s iPhone release and the release of the Galaxy Note 3. The LG Nexus 5 had a strangely sized 4.95 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. The Nexus 5 also had a 8 megapixel camera and a 2,300mAh battery which was a slight upgrade from last year’s 2,100mAh battery capacity. On the interior the Nexus 5 was powered by a quad core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor, an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Fortunately LG upped their storage options in 2013 and the LG Nexus 5 came in both 16GB and 32GB variants. This was an important move by LG because unlike LG’s own flagship smartphone in 2013, the Nexus 5 did not launch with a microSD card slot.

At the time the Nexus 5 launched with Android 5.0 Lollipop but because it is a part of the Nexus range it receives updates to the latest Android OS versions as soon as they release. Because of this the LG Nexus 5 can be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The software on the Nexus is stock Android so LG has not tinkered with the operating system interface at all. Whilst this means that LG’s apps like Dual Window and QuickMemo are not included, stock Android runs smoother and day one updates are an added bonus. If you do not like the stock Android operating system you could always consider upgrading your interface by either installing a custom ROM by rooting your device and finding a ROM in one of the Android developer communities or alternatively install a launcher app from the Google Play Store.
