Launched in October 2015, the LG Nexus 5X was one of two Nexus smartphones released that year. Alongside the Nexus 6P by Huawei, the LG Nexus 5X was available straight from Google as an affordable smartphone with stock Android and decent hardware specifications. Unfortunately the LG Nexus 5X was no way as affordable as previous Nexus releases but it’s price point was still a chunk less than the Galaxy S6 or the iPhone 6S.
The Nexus 5X was the smallest of the two Nexus smartphones in 2015 but that doesn’t mean it was small. In fact, the 5.2 inch display on the 5X was more than enough screen estate to play with. The display had a 1080 x 1920 resolution so whilst it wasn’t the best in town it still produced high quality HD results. The camera on the Nexus 5X was a 12.3 megapixel camera and whilst it had laser auto-focus it did not have OIS. The 5X camera was decent but it couldn’t quite perform as well as other smartphone cameras, such as the LG G4’s, the Galaxy S6’s or the iPhone 6S’s. On the inside, the LG Nexus 5X had the less powerful Snapdragon 808 SoC as opposed to the Snapdragon 810 but after many complaints were made about the overheating of the 810, we’d consider the 808 a better choice over the other option. The 808 SoC had a hexa core processor and an Adreno 418. The SoC was coupled with 2GB of RAM and the Nexus 5X came in 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants.
Besides the hardware, the Nexus 5X came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, being one of the very few smartphones leaving 2015 to have the latest version of Android. Because the LG 5X is part of the Nexus range, it will always receive the latest Android updates as soon as they are released. This makes it a great option for anybody hoping to get the most optimized and up to date operating system.
