In 2013 LG released the LG Optimus G Pro. At the time LG had their own flagship range and the Optimus G range was considered a choice for phablet fanatics. Nowadays LG’s flagship range features smartphones with displays as large as the Optimus G Pro, so the Optimus G range has since been discontinued. However, if you still own an LG Optimus G Pro LG-E980, you should consider yourself lucky because this device is a decent smartphone even today.

As mentioned before, the LG Optimus G Pro has a large display. The full specs of the display on the Optimus G Pro are as follows – Full HD IPS Plus LCD capacitive touchscreen at 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. The LG Optimus G Pro also has  a 13 megapixel camera that can produce some fairly decent results, although without any image stabilization and a smaller lens than today’s flagship devices, it gets easily outdone by the cameras inside the latest and greatest smartphones. On the inside the LG Optimus G Pro is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC. Inside the Snapdragon S4 Pro is a quad core 1.7GHz Krait processor and an Adreno 320 GPU. Alongside the SoC is 2GB of RAM, a giant 3,140mAh battery and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage depending on the variant you own. Admittedly the hardware in the LG Optimus G Pro doesn’t perform as well as smartphone flagships released this year but it still does well enough to provide a lag-free experience on the Android operating system.

Talking about Android, the Optimus G Pro came with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat is planned. The LG UX On the Optimus G Pro wasn’t particularly that impressive but with an upgrade to KitKat in the future the software may eventually become something worth considering over it’s competitors. However, LG’s user experience didn’t start to get worthwhile until 2014 when the LG G3 was released so the Optimus G Pro is unfortunately a little lacking and it may still be even after an upgrade to KitKat.
